Best wishes Jami!

Heidi_jami_lastday_2

We said goodbye today to friend and long-time staffer Jami Gasmenia. Here I am with Jami today at lunchtime, when we had cake and cards and goodbyes. During Jami's six years with Botanical PaperWorks, she has held a wide variety of jobs, from Assembly Team Leader to her current position of Shipper.

We're sad to be saying goodbye, Jami, but we're also excited about what the future holds for you and wish you best of luck. Come back often to see us. We're going to miss you!!

Featured Customer Design: Heather and Erik

Customer_invitation_3Heather and Erik sent in this photo of their wedding program. They used Cream Garden Greetings plantable seed paper and printed/assembled the piece themselves.

Because the paper is plantable, Heather and Erik's wedding guests can plant the paper and enjoy wildflowers that will grow and bloom long after the event.

It's inspiring for our papermaking team to get photos from our customers and friends. It lets us follow the sheets of paper from when it leaves our studio to the point of transformation into a very special stationery piece.

Thank you Heather and Erik for choosing Botanical PaperWorks and for sharing your wedding program. Best wishes from all of us!

Thanks and thank you cards

Thank_you_cards

In getting ready for Fall, I just reordered my personalized thank you cards. I love having a set of thank you's on hand for those times when I suddenly need a card. Recently, I've used them to thank our children's caregiver, to say thanks for a lovely birthday gift (my birthday is next week!) and to thank a volunteer for a job well done.

I find that having beautiful thank you cards helps me be more expressive with my thanks. How many times have I thought "I should send a thank you note" but didn't have anything inspiring to write on?! Now I just grab my thank you card set, my Waterman fountain pen and my address book and I'm all set.

Splitcoast_25stroke_2Speaking of thanks, I'd like to express my thanks to Anne Marie for mentioning Botanical PaperWorks and our plantable, seeded paper in the forum on Split Coast Stampers. Anne Marie writes a blog called Rest and Be Thankful that's definitely worth checking out.

I'd also like to thank Kal Barteski and her wonderful blog readers for visiting Stationery Scoop and leaving comments. I'm excited to meet you and I SO appreciate your feedback and encouragement.

We have some interesting products in the works that I'm excited to tell you about...in a couple of weeks, we'll have a full unveiling. But let me just say that if you love beautiful, well-priced stationery, you won't want to miss this. More to come!

Black and White Ribbon

At Botanical PaperWorks, many of our plantable seed favors and wedding invitations are available with satin ribbon embellishment. With 20 different ribbons to choose from, it's sometimes hard to decide. We've just made it even harder with the addition of a new black ribbon option, available now.

Above is the Plantable Butterfly Seed Favor in white Garden Greetingsā„¢ seed paper and the new black satin ribbon. It's a wonderful option for Fall and Winter special events, and especially suits parties and weddings with a black and white theme.

Field

On another note, I had an amazing experience yesterday with photographer Ruth Bonneville. She shot photos for an article on Botanical PaperWorks which will be in the Fall issue of Winnipeg Women magazine. Ruth took me to a field next to the St. Norbert Ruins to capture the botanical aspect of our handmade paper. During the hour-long shoot, she encouraged me to stand, crouch, move, relax and smile. The sun was setting a golden orange in the background and the waving fields of grasses and flowers made me feel like I was in the middle of a Little House on the Prairie scene.

I feel so blessed to have had that experience, and my sincere thanks goes to Ruth and to the folks at Winnipeg Women. I'm still glowing!

Monday Special: Buy 2, Get 1 Free Handmade Paper

A few years ago, Botanical PaperWorks' handmade papers received "CK OK" designation from the folks at Creating Keepsakes magazine. This layout was published in Creating Keepsakes along with images of our handmade papers. I found the page recently when I was going through some samples at work. Can you guess who the baby is? It's me!

Scrapbooking_layout

For our Monday special this week, I want to make an offer that gets our handmade paper into your hands, the hands of our cardmakers, scrapbookers, bookbinders and paper crafters. So here it is:

Buy two sheets of 8 1/2 x 11 handmade paper, get the third sheet free

Don't wait - this offer is valid until Wed, August 29 at noon Central Time on orders of 24 sheets or less. For orders placed online, your total will be adjusted by our Customer Care Team and a confirmation sent by email.

When your paper arrives, don't hoard it, be free and use it (instead of saving it, saving it, saving it). And be sure to send us a photo or scan of your creation. We'll post it on our blog.

Weekend Project: Write a handwritten note

Handwritten_note_book_2

The weekends are all about kicking back and savoring the moment. If even for just one moment, it's about taking time to be quiet, attentive, and absent of the hum and buzz and beep of technology.

In that moment, why not indulge in the art of the handwritten note. Maybe there is a thank you note that you've been putting off writing. Or a card that you wanted to send to a friend for her birthday.

Glass_pen_metal_amber_f

Grab some wonderful paper, a fantastic pen and an inspiring guide and get writing. Enjoy the scritchy scratch of pen on paper as your thoughts flow into your pen and express themselves in your uniquely-you handwriting. Have fun with it, and then go mail that note so that it doesn't languish under a pile of bills. Have a great weekend!

Eco-favors and eco-invitations

Pot_of_flatcards_sm_2 What does the word "eco" mean? At Botanical PaperWorks, we think it is all about making choices - choices to minimize environmental impact, to reuse, to recycle and to do all those good things that keep our world clean and the garbage can from overflowing.

So we call our plantable, seeded wedding invitations and party favors eco-invitations and eco-favors because in choosing them, our customers are choosing products that avoid creating more paper waste.

We're working on walking our talk - last September, our office went "paperless". Instead of printing out reams of paper to take and track your order through our system, we use the computers. We had computers anyways; now we're using them more. This change drastically reduced our paper use.

There will be more changes to report on in the weeks to come as we examine our processes and products, and make tons of changes (little and big) to improve our environmental footprint. Please join us on this important, long-term journey!

Finally...a way to transport a cupcake

I'm always looking for solutions that allow us to reduce, reuse or recycle. And if the product is cute, colorful or ingenious, it's even better.Cup_a_cake_l_2

So I was thrilled today when I found the Cup-A-Cake individual cupcake holder. The holder is specially designed to keep the cupcake from shifting or scrunching, even when tipped or knocked. It's a great idea which is sure to increase my consumption of cupcakes (for better or worse!).
