On this 31st of October...

Halloween, therefore I sew

What is it about Halloween that gets us parents digging out the sewing machines, glue guns and pinking shears? Even though I bought an angel costume for my 5 year old, we're having a fun time this afternoon transforming it into The Tooth Fairy. To prove that yes, I did indeed sew a tooth-shaped purse, here is some evidence!

My home office became the sewing station. Move over iMac; here comes the Elna! Yes, my eyes are closed, but that's what happens when you have a five year old take your picture.

And here is my creation - a tooth fairy's purse.

The card shown above is part of the Plantable Greeting Card set. We finished putting them together on Friday and I loved them so much that I took a set home to photograph.

Imagine this - it's early on Saturday morning, around 6:15 am, and I'm in the dark kitchen with a camera, tripod and light box setting up this shoot. Why was I up instead of sleeping? Well, the kids were at a sleep-over at their grandparents and it was a rare opportunity to take some photos uninterrupted. So, I used the time to take some shots, including this one of the rockin' green, orange and turquoise envelopes that come with the cards.

I love these colored envelopes. I think it makes the card extra special, because you don't see vibrant shades like this much. The recipient will definitely take note of this card when it arrives in the mailbox, glowing amongst the bills and junk mail. How much do you want to bet that it will be the first thing to be opened?

The most special pens

It was 1997 and we were in New York, the Big Apple, me and my mom. We wandered into Kate's Paperie. Our eyes grew huge as they fell on rack after rack of papers. Beautiful, gorgeous papers. Embroidered. Handmade. Screen printed. Embossed. For a paper lover, it didn't get better than this.

In the center of the store was a glass cabinet. Jewelry? Yes, jewelry for writing - the very best pens with the very best inks. And in the middle of the cabinet, a pen and ink set called to me. It said "Buy me! We'll have writing adventures together, the likes of which you've never imagined. I'll help you set your creativity free".

Ten years later, I remember buying that set like it was yesterday. Every time we write together, I am transported to another age, a place where time moves slowly, as my pen scratches the paper and the delicate fragrance wafts from the scented ink bottle.
