With the National Stationery Show just around the corner, this seems like the perfect time to review a new book called I Heart Stationery by Charlotte Rivers. The book is a beautiful collection of greeting cards and paper products from dozens of designers, all organized by technique. It covers hand-drawn illustrations, screen printing, letterpress, woodblock, digital illustration, calligraphy, spray paint, papercut, relief print and etchings. There is SO much content!
Each chapter begins with an explanation and tutorial on the specific technique featured, and includes examples that are fun to study. Tips and interviews with stationery designers offer useful, practical advice on everything from paper choices to sustainability and how to approach manufacturers.
There are over 100 designers featured in this book and they hail from all around the world, especially concentrating on the United States, the UK and Australia.
The book is perfect for a short read, so I've put it on my coffee table for when I have a few minutes and want some quick inspiration.
The designs range in style from modern to vintage.
The materials also range from repurposed notebooks to writing sets and paper bags.
The book also acts as a resource for stationery designers:
This guide at the back lists the top stationery trade shows.
I highly recommend I Heart Stationery for anyone who loves paper and stationery. You'll be turning back to this book for many years to come.
