I first heard about this concept of Little Free Libraries via Jessica Swift. I totally fell in love with the idea - you take a book, you leave a book from these pint-sized libraries located on peoples front lawns across the country. Check out if there are any near you, because they're all registered on the Little Free Libraries website. It's a creative way to make books accessible and encourage literacy.
There are a few Little Free Libraries registered in Canada but none yet in my home town of Winnipeg. Looks like we have some work to do.
From the photos on the
Little Free Libraries website, it's fun to see the different ways people have created their library, from beautiful wood and hand-painted houses to a converted newspaper vending box. Very cool.
P.S. Check out the
July Treats To Beat The Heat post this week over at the Botanical PaperWorks blog. We're loving maxi dresses, iced David's Tea and more. Check it out!
*UPDATE July 23, 2012 - I heard from Charlene Roziere who has a Little Free Library in Winnipeg!
Check out her Facebook page and drop by 273 Mandeville St, just north of Assiniboine Park to check it out.
