DMA Plantable Seed Coasters

Were you at the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) conference this past weekend in Las Vegas? Did you pick up one of these fabulously eco plantable coasters? They were made by us at Botanical PaperWorks! We're excited to see more and more suppliers offering eco-minded promotional products, and these coasters are a very eco-friendly addition to the industry. Made with 100% post-consumer waste, the coasters will recycle into wildflowers when planted.

cool people we know

In our business, we have the privilege of interacting with many interesting people. Here are a three clients and friends who WOW us with their creativity and drive.

Couture Tees

In a post called Plantable hang tag? It's seed paper!, client Ciara Elend shows off her new plantable, seeded hang tags. Go to Ciara's website here and check out the pictures of celebrities wearing her couture tees and tanks. Another must-see: her election tees for the American election.

Drumming Papermaker

Ever wondered what a papermaker does after dark? Phoebe Man, papermaker extraordinaire at Botanical PaperWorks is also a taiko drummer. Recently, Phoebe got together with two other artists in a pre-arranged jam session and recorded this song Something Is Kind Of Amiss (click on "Week 15" to open the tab).

Cool Kid's Designer

A chance chat on the playground resulted in my meeting this talented entrepreneur and graphic designer, Holly Clarke. Her company, Small Potatoes, designs and produces baby clothes and accessories. One of my favorite quotes on her site is for a Nursing Cover - "Because baby's feeding time shouldn't be a peep show for Uncle Earl". Hah! How many women have felt like that before! You can stay up-to-date by reading Holly's blog.

Promote yourself

Collage_plantable_promotional_products
Do you ever find that your week [month, year] can be summed up in one thematic phrase? My week would best be characterized as Promote Yourself, a week where I've been reminded over and over of the value of putting yourself and what you stand for out there.

Here are some examples of what's happened:

  • I had the pleasure of speaking with a new business contact from abroad to discuss potential business collaborations. The connection was made after I was featured on a B2B website.
  • The printing department at Botanical PaperWorks gave me the above samples + more of innovative promotional campaigns by our customers, all using our 100% post-consumer waster, 100% plantable paper.
  • Tomorrow, I'm getting my photo taken for print B2B magazine featuring Botanical PaperWorks and two other innovative Manitoba businesses.

and so much more! When my mother-in-law called me the other day and asked how things were going, all I could say was "Never a dull moment at Botanical PaperWorks!" and that's the truth. At the same time, it's hard to put yourself out there with a raging head cold, so my goal today is to finally HIT this sickness out of the ballpark. Yah. Gone.

Birthdays + hope

It's Sunday and I'm putting in a few hours at the office. I am reveling the quiet, dark stillness of the place, working on several projects and catching up on emails. Today marked the final day of the Roman Birthday Festival with breakfast in bed, a Reimer-Epp family tradition. And to round things out, we'll celebrate the birthday of nephew Daniel tonight by gathering with the extended Epp family.

Look at this absolutely lovely custom-designed plantable card that the team at Botanical PaperWorks made for me. Thanks Kelly for the beautiful design, and thanks everyone for your heartfelt birthday wishes!

I'll close with this picture of the plantable memento from yesterday's Winners Walk of Hope for ovarian cancer. It's exciting to think of the hundreds of people who will be planting their yellow paper ribbons and growing wildflowers - a long-lasting symbol of hope!

Sunny Saturday

H_keychain

Hello Saturday! It's a beautiful sunny day for the the Winners Walk of Hope for Ovarian Cancer for which Botanical PaperWorks proudly provided plantable favors for each participant. Best wishes to each participant.

Here's some feedback that we recently received from client Tarliena. Enjoy and have a great day!

GREETINGS!

I just wanted to say that my retirement dinner/party was a big success on August 15th.  Part of that success were the beautiful favors that you created.  Most of the guest had never heard of the concept and thought the idea of planting paper that would grow into flowers a wonderful way to minimize waste and beautify the environment at the same time.  Thank you so much for your courtesy when I needed more favors in a short period of time.  Thank you for your professionalism but with a personalized edge.  I really appreciated the services and will not hestitate to use your company again.  In addition, I have already recommended you to my friends.

We're having fun...

with our business called Botanical PaperWorks! Monday, I was visited by Kara Friesen, a family friend and former Botanical PaperWorker. When Kara was at BPW, we were a small company. In fact, we reminisced that Kara did every job in the company, from making paper, to assembly, printing, shipping and customer care. Those were the days!

Here we are in my office:

Here's a cool product that is going in the employee store at Manitoba Hydro - the 2009 Plantable Eco Calendar branded just for them on the belly band. Petra dropped off the calendars Wednesday afternoon, so they should be on the shelves soon. Let us know what you think.

Go and shop here

Tiber River Naturals, my go-to store for personal care products, is stocking Botanical PaperWorks' plantable greeting cards and according to co-owner Michelle Lalonde, the cards are very popular with their clients. I love shopping Tiber River for Bottoms Up lotion which treats my eczema like nothing else, and my every-six-week pedicure with Darcie. Here I am with Michelle when she came by to pick up an order:

Kind words mean a lot

We love it when clients shoot us a quick email to express their delight with our products. It makes the entire team feel good, from customer care who helped the client choose a product perfect for them to the papermakers who made the plantable paper and the assembly team that put together the order, all the way to the shipper who carefully packaged the order up and sent it on its way.

Here is some lovely feedback from client Leigh:

Just wanted to compliment your company's service and product.  The favors were a big hit at the organic themed baby shower.  Thanks for getting them here in time.

It's wonderful that you had an organic-themed shower, Leigh. When planning an event such as a baby shower or wedding, we each have a unique opportunity to make product choices that make sense for the planet, such as choosing to go organic. Wonderful!
