It's been five months since I made a vow to send more greetings cards. My plan back in the Fall was to send a hand-written birthday card to everyone in my immediate family, for one year, given in-person or sent in the mail if we weren't celebrating together. It's been fun so far, but definitely required some organization.
I started by preparing my greeting card organizer and stocking it well. The organizing and stocking part was fun, but after a couple of months, I ran out of cards and needed to buy more. I got busy with Christmas and didn't get around to buying more cards, so I ended up being late with the cards for my two nephews and one niece who have birthdays around the New Year.
How am I doing? Here are the stats:
- Number of cards mailed: 8 out of 10 eligible birthdays
- Number of cards sent ontime: 6
- Number of cards sent late: 2
- Number of cards sent with the wrong address: 1, the very first birthday card that I sent when I used a five-year-old address. But happily, the people living in the old place had forwarded my grandma the birthday card. Yay!
With Spring and Summer birthdays around the corner, I have some shopping to do to be ready. Happily, I've come to enjoy the process of reading and selecting the birthday cards because it's fun to have some time to myself and also because I'm taking time to think about the person and what they'd like to receive.
